Online Tools

There are so many free online tools out there it's difficult to believe. Behind the scenes in the library they will be very useful. Sharing documents with colleagues through tools like Google Docs will come in handy.

As for this technology in relation to library patrons, I think if library staff are aware of these tools we can suggest them to patrons as the situations arises. We will also be able to understand patrons when they ask us about them.

Mashups

Mashups are a really creative way to display multiple pieces of information. At first I wasn't sure how this could be useful to libraries, I mean it's creative and it looks nice, but is it really useful?

After looking at other people's blog and reading their ideas - mashups could be great for local studies to put a picture of a local building or landmark on a map to give people more details - I think mashups are both very intersting and useful.

Podcasts

Podcasts are a really great way to open the library to people who may not visit it. There are so many uses for this technology - book reviews, events, activities ect. The opportunities are endless. One of the challenges would be to promote it enough so that people know that they can access the library this way.

Slamming the Boards

This is a great tool that will allow libraries to reach more people and direct them to really good information.

Using Delicious

It took me a while to work out how to link the delicious bookmarks to the blog, but I got there in the end. I think.

This tool would be useful in libraries if there were specfic sites that were used often. It also helps having your bookmarks accessable from anywhere.
